Bills Working Out RBs Trent Richardson & Boom Herron

Mike Garafolo of FOX Sports reports that the Bills are bringing in veteran RB Trent Richardson for a workout following the injuries to LeSean McCoy and Karlos Williams.

  • According to Ian Rapoport, the Bills are also working out RB Boom Herron on Tuesday.

Buffalo had to find some more depth at the running back position after GM Doug Whaley announced Monday that Williams suffered a concussion and was in the league’s protocol.

Richardson, 25, was taken with the No. 3 overall pick by the Browns during the 2012 NFL draft. However, he lasted just over a year in Cleveland before he was traded to the Colts for a first-round pick.

The Raiders elected to sign him to a two-year, $3.85 million contract that included $600,000 guaranteed back in March, only to release him during roster cuts.

This is the first reported interest in Richardson since he became available over a month ago.

In 2014, he ran for 519 yards on 159 carries (3.3 YPC) to go along with 27 receptions for 229 yards receiving and three touchdowns. Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 29 running back out of 57 qualifying players.

Herron, 26, signed his exclusive rights tender from the Colts back in April worth $660,000. However, the Colts waived him from injured reserve with a settlement at the start of the season.

In 2014, Herron appeared in all 16 games for the Colts and ran for 351 yards on 78 carries (4.5 YPC) to go along with 21 receptions and 173 yards receiving and a touchdown.
