Bills WR Sammy Watkins Could Be Out Several Weeks, Due To “Severe Discomfort” In Foot

Update:

Ian Rapoport of NFL Media reports thatĀ confirms that Bills WR Sammy Watkins is experiencing pain in his surgically repaired foot. However, his foot is structurally sound and the Bills reportedly do not have any plans to shut Watkins down for the season.

The problem for Watkins is that he’ll likely have to play through pain this year, according to Rapoport.

During Sunday’s game, Rapoport says that the Bills actually thought Watkins had re-broken his foot or the screw, but that thankfully was not the case.

Manish Mehta of the New York Daily NewsĀ reports that Bills WRĀ Sammy WatkinsĀ playing with “severe discomfort” in his surgically repaired foot andĀ it’s possible he could be shut down for several weeks or longer, depending on how his foot responds.

A source tells Mehta thatĀ X-rays taken after the Bills Week 1 loss to the Ravens, did not reveal another break, but there are questions as to whether Watkins can manage the pain in his foot.

In fact, Mehta says that “there was a thought Sunday night that he could miss the rest of the season.” Medical personnel

According to Mehta, medical personnel have informed Watkins and the team that there is no surgical remedy for the issue at this time.

The Bills will play the Jets on Thursday, so at a minimum it appears safe to assume he’ll be out for Week 2.

Watkins, 23, is in the third year of his four-year, $19.935 million rookie contractĀ and stands to make a base salary ofĀ $2,232,328 for the 2016 season to go along withĀ $3,138,491 next year.

This season, Watkins has caught four passes for 43 yards receiving and no touchdowns for the Bills over the course of one game.
