Bills WR Stevie Johnson Possibly On The Chopping Block?

Mike Rodak of ESPN.com takes a look at a few players who could be on the chopping block as the Bills head into the offseason.

Among the names included in Rodak’s article, is Bills WR Stevie Johnson who will be entering the third season of his five-year, $36.25 million contract.

According to Rodak, the Bills wouldn’t see any actual saving in regards to their cap situation until 2015 and 2016, but the fact that he’s due a $1.75 roster bonus in March could force them to consider the idea as they prepare for free agency.

Rodak mentions that Buffalo could wait to make a decision regarding Johnson until after the draft at which point they could consider drafting Clemson WR Sammy Watkins should he be available to them at No. 9 overall.

It’s worth mentioning that this isn’t the first time that Johnson’s name has some up as a potential cap casualty in recent months.

Joe Buscaglia of WGR 550 Buffalo previously brought up the idea citing the fact that Johnson’s cap figure is set to increase by $3 million while mentioning that Johnson is a similar type of receiver to Robert Woods.

It’s hard to say whether or not this is really a move the Bills front office will consider making given that they are projected to have close to $19.8 million in cap space this offseason, according to Overthecap.com.

Johnson played in 12 games for the Bills this season where he caught 52 passes for 597 yards and three touchdowns. Pro Football Focus gave Johnson a positive rating in 2013, but it was still only good enough for No. 54 overall among qualifying receivers.
