Bills WR Sammy Watkins Suffers A Broken Bone In Foot, Should Be Back For Camp

Tyler Dunne of the Buffalo News, citing multiple team sources, reports that Bills WR Sammy Watkins has suffered a broken foot.

  • Ian Rapoport confirms the report and adds that Watkins suffered a broken small bone in his foot that required a screw to be inserted in his foot. According to Rapoport, Watkins should be ready for the start of training camp.
  • Mike Garafolo reports that Watkins is expected to require 6-8 weeks to recover. Although, the procedure was done a few weeks ago, which is why he could be back for training camp.

This comes just an hour or so after the Bills announced that first-round OLB Shaq Lawson was undergoing shoulder surgery, despite both the team and Lawson denying after the draft that this procedure was needed.

Watkins, 22, is in the third year of his four-year, $19.935 million rookie contract and stands to make a base salary of $2,232,328 for the 2016 season.

In 2015, Watkins appeared in 13 games for the Bills and recorded 60 receptions for 1,047 yards receiving and nine touchdowns.

We’ll have more regarding Watkins’ injury as the news is available.
