Blaine Gabbert Named Jaguars Week 1 Starter

Jacksonville Jaguars HC Gus Bradley announced that Blaine Gabbert will be the team’s starting quarterback for Week 1 against the Kansas City Chiefs.

A 2011 first round pick from Missouri, Gabbert is entering his third season with the team. He began the 2012 campaign as Jacksonville’s primary passer but was replaced by Chad Henne mid-season following an injury. Henne rode a hot streak and kept the job for the rest of the year.

Under Gabbert’s direction, the team has compiled a 5-19 record in games which he started.

Even if Gabbert disappoints again this season, his salary under the NFL’s new CBA makes him very affordable. In the third year of his rookie deal, he will make just over $1.4 million in 2013 and a hair over $2 million in 2014. Gabbert is a free agent in 2015.
