Blaine Gabbert Starting Week 3?

There really wasn’t anything positive to come out of the Jaguars 32-3 loss to the New York Jets on Sunday other than they know Luke McCown isn’t their quarterback of the future.

ESPN’s Paul Kuharsky provided a little perspective regarding the teams inept offense.

That helped produce the 0.4 QBR, which means 99.6 percent of quarterback games are better than that one was. In fact, McCown’s score was the third-lowest QBR recorded by any quarterback in a single game (min. 20 plays) since 2008 — a stretch of more than 1,500 qualifying games.”

McCown’s game wasn’t just bad but a terrible performance that will force his coach to reconsider his descision to cut David Garrard and anoint McCown as the teams starter. Next logic move is for Del Rio to turn to Blaine Gabbert.

My answer is we’ll discuss that as a staff,” Del Rio said. “What I can tell you now is I made the decision in this ballgame to let Blaine [Gabbert] play and let him get a little experience. We’ll go from here.”

Gene Frenette of Jacksonville.com makes a pretty good case for Gabbert taking over the starting job.

But when it’s inevitable that the future franchise quarterback is going to play, and other rookies like the Carolina Panthers’ Cam Newton and Cincinnati Bengals’ Andy Dalton are performing well, how much longer should Gabbert wait for the Jaguars to give him the keys?”
