NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport tweeted Monday that it’s his understanding Branden Albert, who has been involved in trade talks with the Miami Dolphins as of late, has “accepted” he’ll remain with the Kansas City Chiefs this next season.
The Dolphins signed former Falcons offensive tackle Tyson Clabo over the weekend, perhaps indicating the team had to look else where to fill their offensive line needs.
Albert posted to his Instagram account Sunday a photograph of himself with the caption “It’s official. I’m comin home, I’m comin home tell the world I’m comin home. #ItWasFun #DestinedforGreatness #ChiefNation #kcchiefs.”
Based off of his post, it certainly appears as if Albert has come to the reality he won’t be changing area codes prior to the 2013 season.
Albert signed a one-year, $9.83 million deal in mid-March after the club franchise tagged him during the offseason. Rapoport also states both parties would like to work on an extension.

Is this the open door for the Chiefs to bend Alberts over backwards? Has he given up any shred of leverage at all? Can the Chiefs negotiate his salary down, move his position at will, take his cookies at lunch time?

This is a great question. What’s the long-term plan for Eric Fisher? Did they really take him with the No. 1 overall pick just to play him at RT? Albert was reportedly looking for a similar deal to that of Jake Long during the negotiations with Miami, so it seems like that’s too much for the Chiefs given their situation.
