Brandon Browner Will Sue The NFL Next Week, Hoping To Test Free Agent Market

The agent for Seahawks CB Brandon Browner, Peter Schaffer, told Pro Football Talk on Wednesday that he plans on filing a lawsuit against the NFL challenging their decision to suspend his client indefinitely.

  • Schaffer’s complaint is expected to include a preliminary injunction that would ask the court to allow Browner to become a free agent in the coming weeks.
  • According to the report, Schaffer is also expected to ask for Browner to be eligible to practice and play until a resolution has been reached regarding this matter.

Browner is expected to contend that the NFL notified him of the test results at an address where no longer lived. He will also make the case that NFLPA never informed him of the penalties and suspensions that could come from not submitting drug tests during the five years after he was released by the Broncos.

Browner, 29, would have been one of the most sought after free agents in this year’s market, but with serious questions about his future moving forward and an indefinite suspension, it’s hard to say what kind of interest he’ll find on the open market.

The Seahawks are reportedly prepared to move on with him and start Byron Maxwell or Jeremy Lane in his place.

Last year, Browner totaled 19 tackles, one interception and 10 passes defensed over the course of eight games for Seattle.
