Bills Place WR Sammy Watkins On Injured Reserve

The Buffalo Bills announced Friday that they’ve placed WR Sammy Watkins on injured reserve with a foot injury.

• Ian Rapoport reports that Watkins does not have a surgery scheduled, but will still visit with Dr. Robert Anderson to be sure.
• According to Rapoport, the plan, for now, is to have Watkins rest and focus on rehabbing his foot injury.

Bills HC Rex Ryan told reporters on Friday that there is “major concern” that Watkins’ foot injury is a long-term issue, so it was clear that this could be an option for him.

Watkins has been dealing with discomfort in his surgically repaired foot. However, reports have said that his foot is still structurally sound, despite some concern that Watkins may have re-broken his foot or the screw that was inserted during surgery, but that thankfully was not the case.

By being placed on injured reserve, Watkins will be forced to miss the next eight weeks before he can be activated. He’ll be eligible to return on November 11 and can play as soon as November 27 against the Jaguars.

Watkins, 23, is in the third year of his four-year, $19.935 million rookie contract and stands to make a base salary of $2,232,328 for the 2016 season to go along with $3,138,491 next year.

This season, Watkins has caught six passes for 63 yards receiving and no touchdowns for the Bills over the course of two games.
