Broncos Sign RFA LB Brandon Marshall To Four-Year, $32M Extension

Mike Klis of 9News is reporting that the Broncos have reached an agreement with RFA LB Brandon Marshall on a four-year extension.

  • Troy Renck of the Denver Post reports that Marshall receives a four-year, $32 million deal with $20 guaranteed and a $10 million signing bonus.
  • This contract will keep Marshall under team control through the 2020 season.
  • Marshall will play out the 2016 season for his restricted tender amount of $2.53 million, according to Renck.
  • Mike Florio reports that Marshall receives $15 million fully guaranteed in this agreement.

We’re thrilled to agree to terms with Brandon on a four-year extension,” Executive VP/GM John Elway said. “Brandon’s become an integral part of our defense over the last three years and has put in a lot of hard work into becoming such a key player on our team.

“We congratulate Brandon and look forward to him being a Bronco for many more years.

Denver had until tomorrow to sign Marshall to an extension, so it appears the though sides were motivated enough to get an agreement in place that would prevent him from testing the open market in 2017.

The Broncos reportedly turned their attention new contracts for Marshall and WR Emmanuel Sanders after they were unable to get a deal in place with franchise OLB Von Miller before the start of minicamp.

Marshall, 26, is a former fifth-round pick of the Jaguars back in 2012. However, he lasted just over a year in Jacksonville before he was waived at the start of the 2013 season and later signed to the Broncos practice squad.

Denver elected to use a second-round tender on Marshall that was set to cost them $2.553 million for the 2016 season.

In 2015, Marshall appeared in all 16 games and recorded 102 tackles, 1.5 sacks, an interception, two forced fumbles and four pass defenses. Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 12 linebacker out of 97 qualifying players.
