Buccaneers Sign QB Ryan Fitzpatrick To One-Year Deal Worth Up To $5

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have agreed to terms with veteran QB Ryan Fitzpatrick on Friday, according to Rick Stroud.

  • According to Ian Rapoport, Fitzpatrick receives a one-year, $3 million contract that can be worth as much as $5 million with incentives.

There had not been any reported interest in Fitzpatrick since his contract with the Jets officially voided back in February. However, Fitzpatrick maintained that he wanted to continue his playing career and it appears as though he’ll get a shot to backup Jameis Winston in Tampa Bay this summer.

The Buccaneers had Ryan Griffin backing up Winston, but he has never taken a snap in a regular season NFL game while Sean Renfree has attempted just seven passes over the course of two seasons with the Falcons.

Fitzpatrick, 34, is a former seventh-round pick of the Rams back in 2005. He’s played for a number of teams including the Bengals, Bills, Titans and Texans before he was traded to the Jets in 2015.

Fitzpatrick signed a one-year $12 million contract with the Jets last July.

In 2016, Fitzpatrick appeared in 14 games and completed 56.6 percent of his passes for 2,710 yards to go along with 12 touchdowns and 17 interceptions. Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 31 quarterback out of 34 qualifying players.
