Buccaneers Waive TE Austin Seferian-Jenkins

Update:

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers officially announced that they’ve waived TE Austin Seferian-Jenkins on Friday and promoted TE Alan Cross from their practice squad.

We are very disappointed in today’s news,” said General Manager Jason Licht. “After careful consideration, we felt this was the right decision at this time.

The Buccaneers are placing TE Austin Seferian-Jenkins on waivers Friday following his recent arrest this morning for driving under the influence, according to Rick Stroud.

Seferian-Jenkins said goodbye to Tampa Bay via his Twitter account.

Seferian-Jenkins was charged with a misdemeanor and later released on bond.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, Seferian-Jenkins was driving at 75-80 mph in a 55 mph zone and made an improper lane change, cutting off an FHP trooper and “weaving back and forth.”

The report says that Seferian-Jenkins had glassy eyes and the smell of alcohol and appeared to be “agitated.” He also slurred his speech and was leaning on objects for balance.

Seferian-Jenkins declined to provide a breath sample to measure his blood-alcohol level and “performed poorly” on field sobriety tests.

Greg Auman points out that the NFL substance-abuse policy calls for a two-game suspension for conviction and/or admission of an alcohol-related arrest.

This is the second DUI charge for Jenkins, who had previously pleaded guilty to driving under the influence while at the University of Washington back in 2013.

Seferian-Jenkins, 23, is a former second-round pick of the Buccaneers back in 2014. He’s currently in the third year of his four-year, $5.254 million contract and set to make a base salary of $822,721 for the 2016 season.

In 2016, Seferian-Jenkins has appeared in two games and caught three passes for 44 yards receiving and a touchdown.
