Chargers TE Hunter Henry Out For Season With Torn ACL

Adam Schefter reports that Chargers TE Hunter Henry suffered a season-ending torn ACL on Tuesday.

According to Schefter, Henry suffered the injury while running downfield during a drill. Schefter says this was a non-contact injury for Henry, who is expected to get a second opinion on Wednesday.

The Chargers made the decision to move on from long-time TE Antonio Gates this offseason and move forward with Henry as their No. 1 tight end, but this could open the door for Gates to return.

Last year, Henry’s season came to an end after he suffered a kidney laceration.

Henry, 23, is a former second-round pick of the Chargers back in 2016. He’s currently in the third year of his four-year, $6.38 million contract that included $3.98 million guaranteed and stands to make base salaries of $1.03 million and $1.32 million over the final two years of the agreement.

In 2017, Henry appeared in 14 games for the Chargers and caught 45 passes for 579 yards receiving and four touchdowns. Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 3 tight end out of 74 qualifying players.
