Colts Signing Former Patriots DE/OLB Jabaal Sheard To Three-Year, $25.5M Deal

Adam Schefter and Field Yates reports that the Colts are signing former Patriots DE Jabaal Sheard to a contract.

  • Schefter adds that the Colts are signing Sheard to a three-year deal for $25.5 million that includes $12.75 million guaranteed.

The Colts have clearly been in the market for pass rush help and Sheard was the top option available. They also brought in John Simon early in the day to improve their pass rush, so this will be an interesting unit to watch next year.

Sheard recently met with the Dolphins, but his visit to Miami was very brief.

Sheard, 27, is a former second-round pick of the Browns back in 2011. He spent four years in Cleveland before signing on with the Patriots in 2015.

In 2016, Sheard appeared in 15 games for the Patriots and recorded 33 tackles, five sacks, and four pass defenses. Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 36 edge defender out of 109 qualifying players.

We had him featured in our Top 50 Available Free Agents list.
