Cowboys DL David Irving Suspended Four Games

Ian Rapoport reports that Cowboys DL David Irving is being suspended four games for violating the NFL’s substance abuse policy.

This four-game suspension will cost Irving roughly $685,000 in salary for the 2018 season.

Earlier this offseason, Irving was accused of domestic violence by his ex-girlfriend. However, Frisco Police later closed their investigation into the allegations after Irving’s ex-girlfriend retracted the claims.

Irving, 24, originally signed on with the Chiefs as an undrafted free agent out of Iowa State back in 2015. He was waived at the start of the regular season and later added to the Chiefs’ practice squad.

The Cowboys signed him to their active roster just a few weeks into the 2015 season and brought him back on a one-year, $615,000 exclusive rights contract last year.

Dallas used a second-round restricted tender on Irving a few months ago, which will cost them $2.914 million for the 2018 season.

In 2017, Irving appeared in eight games and recorded 22 tackles, seven sacks, a forced fumble and six pass defenses.
