Cowboys Signing OL La’el Collins To Two-Year, $15.4M Extension

Update:

Brandon George reports that Cowboys OL La’el Collins‘ two-year extension is worth up to $17.4 million with $9.5 million guaranteed, including a $4 million signing bonus.

Mike Garafolo of NFL Media reports that the Cowboys and OL La’el Collins have agreed to a two-year, $15.4m extension thru 2019.

Garafolo points out that Collins was set to be a restricted free agent after this year, but the Cowboys have essentially bought the next two years for an average salary of $7.7 million average, which is second highest among right tackles.

Collins is making the transition to right tackle after Doug Free retired during the offseason and it appears as though Dallas felt it was in their best interest to take care of him now, even though there has been a lot of talk about a new deal for G Zack Martin.

Collins, 23, wound up going undrafted out of LSU, but ultimately signed a three-year, $1.599 million contract that is fully guaranteed and included a $21,000 signing bonus. He stands to make a base salary of $616,750 for the 2017 season.

The Cowboys placed Collins on injured reserve last year after he underwent toe surgery to repair a ligament tear in his right big toe.

In 2016, Collins appeared in three games for the Cowboys.
