DeMarcus Ware Announces Retirement From NFL

Update:

Field Yates of ESPN reports that the Rams actually met with free agent OLB DeMarcus Ware this past weekend in Los Angeles before he officially announced his retirement from the NFL on Monday.

Previous reports mentioned that the Cowboys and Broncos were likely to be options for Ware this offseason, but he ultimately decided to call it a career and move on to the next chapter of his life.

Jane Slater reports that the Cowboys have already reached out and expressed interest in bringing Ware back on one-day contract to allow him to retire as a member of their team.

On Monday, veteran DE/OLB DeMarcus Ware announced that he’s retiring from the NFL.

Ware, 34, is a former first-round pick of the Cowboys back in 2005. He spent nine years in Dallas before signing on with the Broncos in 2014.

During the offseason, Ware agreed to a restructured contract with the Broncos included a $ million base salary for the 2016 season to go along with a $2 million signing bonus and another $3.5 million that was available in incentives.

The Broncos placed Ware on season-ending injured reserve with a back injury towards the end of the season.

For his career, Ware recorded 505 tackles, 138.5 sacks, 35 forced fumbles, eight fumble recoveries, three interceptions, three defensive touchdowns, and 35 pass defenses over the course of 12 seasons for the Cowboys and Broncos. He was a nine-time Pro Bowl selection and a four-time All-Pro first-team selection.

Ware should end up being a first-ballot Hall of Fame selection in the coming years.

We had him featured in our Top 100 – 2017 Free Agents list.
