Broncos Could Still Match Dolphins’ Offer Sheet For RB C.J. Anderson

Update:

According to Mike Klis of 9 News“don’t be surprised” if the Broncos match the Dolphins four-year, $18 million offer sheet for RFA RB C.J. Anderson.

Klis admits that Denver badly misjudge Anderson‘s value when they used just a low-round tender on him. However, it appears as though the contract may not be enough to deter them from matching, which had been reported previously.

Mike Klis of 9News reports that the Dolphins have signed Broncos RFA C.J. Anderson to an offer sheet.

  • Klis adds that Anderson‘s offer sheet is a four-year deal worth $18 million and includes a $5.25 million signing bonus.
  • Anderson will receive $6 million in 2016 and $3.5 million in 2017 guaranteed.

The Broncos will now have five days to match the offer, or they would lose him to the Dolphins.

The low-round tender will cost the Broncos  $1,671,000 for the 2016 season and give them the right of first refusal on any contract offer they receive. However, if they elect to not match an offer sheet, Denver would not receive any compensation for losing him.

Anderson, 25, wound up signing on with the Broncos as an undrafted free agent out of California back in 2013. He’s spent three years in Denver before becoming a restricted free agent this year.

In 2015, Anderson ran for 720 yards on 152 carries (4.7 YPC) to go along with 25 receptions for 183 yards receiving and five total touchdowns. Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 37 running back out of 69 qualifying players.
