Dolphins Waiving Former 1st-Rd Pick Dion Jordan

Armando Salguero of the Miami Herald is reporting that the Dolphins are waiving former first-round DE/OLB Dion Jordan with a failed physical designation on Friday.

The expectation has been that the Dolphins were going to move on from Jordan at some point this offseason, given that he hasn’t played in a few years and there’s now a new regime in place, so this doesn’t come as a complete surprise.

This past January, Salguero reported that Jordan had been having “issues” again, but didn’t offer any specifics about what these “issues” were.

Jordan has been suspended twice since entering the NFL for performance-enhancing drug violations and has had two knee surgeries.

Jordan, 27, still has two years remaining on his four-year, $20.572 million rookie contract, which includes base salaries of $600,000 (2016) and $690,000 (2017) after his contract tolled during the suspension. Miami will also have a team option on Jordan in 2018.

The Dolphins traded up to No. 3 overall back in 2012 to select Jordan, but he hasn’t come anywhere close to living up to his draft status.

In 2014, Jordan appeared in 10 games and recorded 20 tackles, one sack, and a pass defense for the Dolphins.
