Eagles QB Carson Wentz Has Fractured Vertebra

Adam Schefter of ESPN reports that a recent CT scan on Eagles QB Carson Wentz‘s back revealed that he has a fractured vertebra.

According to Schefter, the fracture would fully heal without any further issues if Wentz is allowed the necessary time to rest. The good news is that surgery isn’t needed for this particular issue.

The Eagles plan to continue evaluating Wentz to determine if playing again this season would make the injury worse.

Earlier in the week, Ian Rapoport of NFL Media reported that Wentz is not expected to play in Week 15 and it’s possible he may not return at all this season.

Philadelphia will obviously turn to Nick Foles if Wentz is sidelined for the remainder of the season.

Wentz, 25, is a former first-round pick of the Eagles back in 2016. He’s currently in the third year of his four-year, $26.7 million contract that included a $16.7 million signing bonus.

Wentz stands to make base salaries of $2.87 million and $4.08 million over the final two years of the agreement. The Eagles will have a fifth-year option to pick up on Wentz next year.

In 2018, Wentz has appeared in 11 games for the Eagles and completed 69.9 percent of his passes for 3,074 yards, 21 touchdowns, and seven interceptions. He has also rushed for 93 yards.
