There was talk that Ryans could end up being a cap casualty this offseason, so this doesn’t come as a complete surprise.
Ryans, 31, was in the final year of his a two-year, $7.5 million contract that included $6.25 million guaranteed. He was set to make a base salary of $2.5 million for the 2016 season.
According to OverTheCap.com, releasing Ryans will free up $3.5 million in available cap space while creating $1 million in dead money.
In 2015, Ryans appeared in 14 games and recorded 49 tackles, one interception, a forced fumble and five pass defenses.
