Adam Schefter confirms that the Falcons are, in fact, poised to hire Alabama OC Steve Sarkisian as next new offensive coordinator.

Jordan Schultz of The Huffington Post is reporting the Falcons are “all but certain” to name Alabama OC Steve Sarkisian as their new offensive coordinator.

  • Schultz says that an announcement regarding Sarkisian joining the Falcons is forthcoming.

This comes as a surprising, considering that numerous reports for the past few weeks have said that former Eagles and 49ers HC Chip Kelly was the guy to watch for the job.

However, one issue for Kelly may have been that the Falcons were reportedly asking him to keep Kyle Shanahan’s offensive system in place and not run so much uptempo offense.

Sarkisian, 42, began his coaching career with El Camino CC as their quarterbacks coach back in 2000. He spent a few years as USC’s QBs coach before he joining the Raiders’ coaching staff in 2004.

Sarkisian later returned to USC and spent another four years in Southern California before departing to become Washington’s head coach. After four years with the Huskies, Sarkisian once again returned to USC as their head coach, but was fired after two seasons in charge of USC.

Alabama hired Sarkisian as an analyst last September and had him replace Lane Kiffin for the National Championship game.
