Falcons Signing DT Dontari Poe To One-Year, $8M Deal Worth Up To $10M

Update:

The Falcons have already announced their agreement with DT Dontari Poe.

“Poe is an athletic, big guy that can push the pocket,” said General Manager Thomas Dimitroff. “He will add to our defensive line group and will mix nicely with Beasley, Jarrett, Shelby and Clayborn. We are happy to be able to add him to our roster.”

Pro Football Talk is reporting that the Falcons have agreed to terms with DT Dontari Poe.

  • Adam Schefter reports that Poe receives a one-year, $8 million contract that can be worth $10 million with incentives.

Poe visited with four teams since the free agent market officially opened last week including the Colts, Jaguars, Falcons and Dolphins.

However, the Falcons made it clear that they really wanted to add Poe, who has ties to Atlanta’s front office, considering that Scott Pioli was the Chiefs’ general manager when they drafted him years ago.

Some reports have said that teams were concerned about Poe’s back, which could impact the type of contract he receives.

Poe, 26, is a former first-round pick of the Chiefs back in 2012. He played out his four-year, $11,320,006 contract but the Chiefs picked up his fifth-year option last year that will cost them $6.15 million for the 2016 season.

Poe was testing the open market as an unrestricted free agent for the first time in his career.

In 2016, Poe has appeared in all 16 games for the Chiefs and recorded 27 tackles, 1.5 sacks, a forced fumble and three pass defenses. Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 46 interior defensive lineman out of 126 qualifying players.

We had him featured in our Top 50 Available Free Agents list.
