Jerry Richardson Putting Panthers Up For Sale

The Carolina Panthers announced Sunday that owner Jerry Richardson will put the team up for sale following the sexual and racial misconduct allegations made against him that prompted an investigation.

The Carolina Panthers announced Friday that they are commencing an internal investigation into allegations of workplace misconduct against Richardson. However, the NFL decided to take over the investigation today and it appears as though Richardson felt the best move for him was to just sell the franchise.

Jon Wertheim and Viv Bernstein of SI.com reported earlier in the day that at least four former Panthers employees have received “significant” monetary settlements for inappropriate comments and conduct from Richardson.

This includes sexually suggestive language and behavior and the use of a racial slur directed at an African-American Panthers scout. According to the report, the settlements came with non-disclosure requirements that forbid the parties from discussing any details regarding the actions of Richardson.

Richardson, 81, founded the Panthers’ franchise back in 1993. He has been an influential NFL owners over the years, but his recent health issues have led to him having a smaller role in league matters.

We’ll have more regarding the Panthers and Richardson as the news is available..
