Jets Feared HC Todd Bowles Suffered Heart Attack, Has Rejoined Team

Update:

The Jets announced Saturday morning that HC Todd Bowles has rejoined the team after spending the night in the hospital. However, it remains to be seen whether he’ll coach the team during today’s game against the Patriots.

Adam Schefter of ESPN reports that Jets’ officials initially feared that HC Todd Bowles suffered a heart attack on Friday.

Sources tell Schefter that Bowles began throwing up, experienced chest pains, back pains, and after he was given medication, he could not keep it down. This led the team to take Bowles to the hospital after they became extremely concerned about his condition.

The good news is that doctors determined Bowles did not suffer a heart attack, but they still want to continue monitoring him to see if any further action needs to be taken.

Schefter adds that Bowles is still hoping to coach in Saturday’s game against the Patriots, but he has been told it will be a doctor’s decision about whether he can travel to New England.

The New York Jets announced that HC Todd Bowles was admitted to the hospital with an undisclosed illness on Friday and did not travel with the team to New England for their Week 16 matchup.

The good news, however, is that Bowles is in stable condition.

Here’s the full release from the team:

Head Coach Todd Bowles was admitted to the hospital on Friday afternoon with an undisclosed illness and did not travel with the team to New England.

He is in stable condition and it is unclear at this time whether he will join the team for tomorrow’s game against the Patriots.

In the event Bowles is unavailable for the game, Assistant Head Coach Mike Caldwell will serve as head coach.

Bowles, 53, is in his second year as the Jets’ head coach. Since taking the job, he’s lead New York to a record of 14-16 (46.7 percent), which includes a surprising 10-win season last year.

We’ll have more regarding Bowles’ condition and status for Week 16 as the news is available.
