Jets Signing Teddy Bridgewater To One-Year Deal Worth Up To $15M

Adam Schefter reports that former Vikings QB Teddy Bridgewater plans to sign a one-year contract with the New York Jets when free agency officially opens on Wednesday.

  • Ian Rapoport reports that the Jets are signing Bridgewater to a one-year deal worth up to $15M.

The Jets signed Josh McCown to a one-year contract earlier in the day, but reports later said that that move didn’t rule out the possibility of New York also bringing in Bridgewater.

The plan appears to be for McCown to open as the team’s starting quarterback. However, given that he’s dealt with injuries the past few years, it makes sense to bolster their depth at the position.

It will be interesting to see if/when they cut either Bryce Petty or Christian Hackenberg.

Bridgewater, 25, is a former first-round pick of the Vikings back in 2014. He’s currently in the final year of his four-year, $6,849,502 rookie contract and stands to make a base salary of $1,354,023 for the 2017 season.

The Vikings declined to pick up Bridgewater’s fifth-year option that would have cost them $12,198,000 million for the 2018 season. Bridgewater will now be an unrestricted free agent for the first time in his NFL career.

In 2017, Bridgewater appeared in one game for the Vikings and was 0-2 passing and threw an interception.

We have him featured in our Top 100 – 2018 NFL Free Agents list.
