Lions Signing G T.J. Lang To Three-Year, $28.5M Deal

The Detroit Lions are signing G T.J. Lang to a three-year contract, according to his agent Mike McCartney.

  • Ian Rapoport reports that Lang receives a three-year, $28.5 million contract from the Lions with $19 million fully guaranteed.
  • According to Jordan Schultz, part of Lang’s decision to sign with the Lions came down to his wife “not passing up the opportunity to go home.” On top of that, Schultz says that Lions matched the Seahawks’ offer to Lang.

Lang mentioned that he had narrowed his list of choices down to the Lions, Packers and Seahawks and could make his decision as soon as today.

The Lions lost Larry Warford in free agency to the Saints, but Lang should be able to step in an solidify the right guard spot for Detroit moving forward.

This moves creates a hole in the Packers’ offensive line just a year after they cut Josh Sitton. Tom Silverstein reports that Green Bay had a number they were interested in and as of this  weekend hadn’t budged much from it.

Lang ultimately decided to play for his hometown team in Detroit.

Lang, 29, is a former fourth-round pick of the Packers back in 2009. He has played out his four-year, $20.8 million contract that included $5,500,000 guaranteed and was one of the best available players in the free agent market.

In 2016, Lang appeared in 13 games for the Packers and is rated by Pro Football Focus as the No. 8 guard out of 72 qualifying players.
