NFL Suspends Cowboys DE Randy Gregory For At Least One Year

The NFL has officially suspended Cowboys DE Randy Gregory for at least one year, according to Nick Eatman.

This, of course, means that Gregory will not be able to participate in the postseason and will have to apply for reinstatement to the NFL at some point next year.

The Cowboys activated Gregory from the exempt list a few weeks ago and had him available for their final two games of the season.

However, his appeal hearing was scheduled for this week and recent reports said that the league was planning to rule on his appeal soon, so this doesn’t come as a big surprise.

Gregory failed yet another drug test a few months ago, which is why he was again facing a year-long suspension.

Gregory already served a 10-game suspension on top of the four-game suspension he received back in February for another violation of the NFL substance-abuse policy. He has failed four drug tests before this with the first violation coming at the scouting combine.

Gregory, 24, is a former second-round pick of the Cowboys back in May of last year. He’s currently in the second year of his four-year, $3.814 million contract that includes $1.404 million guaranteed and stands to make a base salary of $525,000 for the 2016 season.

In 2016, Gregory appeared in two games for the Cowboys and recorded nine tackles and a sack.
