Packers Signing DL Muhammad Wilkerson To One-Year Deal Worth Up To $8M

Rob Demovsky reports that the Packers have agreed to terms with free agent DL Muhammad Wilkerson.

  • Jason La Canfora reports that Wilkerson gets a one-year contract worth up to $8 million.
  • Tom Pelissero reports that the Packers will pay Wilkerson a $5 million base salary and $3 million in incentives.

Wilkerson also met with the Chiefs, Saints and Redskins since becoming available, but it appears as though the Packers were the best option for him in the end.

It’s worth mentioning that signing him to a contract won’t impact a team’s 2019 compensatory picks, given that he was released this offseason.

Wilkerson, 28, is a former first-round pick of the Jets back in 2011. He played out his rookie contract with the team and was in line to be an unrestricted free agent this offseason before the Jets used their franchise tag on him last year.

The Jets surprisingly locked him up to a five-year, $86 million contract that included $53.5 million guaranteed just before the deadline last year. Wilkerson was set to make base salaries of $16.75 million and $15.25 million over the next two years of the agreement when the Jets announced his release last week.

In 2017, Wilkerson appeared in 13 games for the Jets and recorded 46 tackles, 3.5 sacks, an interception, and four pass defenses. Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 50 interior defender out of 122 qualifying players.

We had him featured in our Top 100 – 2018 NFL Free Agents list.
