Packers Trading For Browns QB DeShone Kizer

Ian Rapoport of NFL Media reports that the Packers have traded for Browns QB DeShone Kizer.

  • According to Adam Schefter, the Browns trade Kizer to the Packers for CB Damarious Randall with the two teams swapping fourth and fifth-round picks. This means that the Packers will move up in each of the fourth and fifth rounds.

It was clear that Kizer wasn’t going to be in the Browns’ long-term plans, given that they’re expected to use one of their two first-round picks on a quarterback this year. Beyond that, the Browns have already traded for Tyrod Taylor, so he could have been in a position where he was likely to open the year as their No. 3 quarterback.

The Packers reportedly had interest in drafting Kizer last year and clearly need some competition for Brett Hundley.

Kizer, 22, was taken in the second-round of last year’s draft by the Browns. He’s currently in the second year of his four-year, $4.948 million contract that included $2.893 million guaranteed and he stands to make base salaries of $689,928 and $914,856 over the next two years of the agreement.

In 2017, Kizer has appeared in five games for the Browns and thrown for 851 yards while completing 50.9 percent of his passes to go along with three touchdowns and nine interceptions. He has also rushed for 126 yards. Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 37 quarterback out of 39 qualifying players.
