Adam Schefter of ESPN is reporting that the Patriots are expected to sign CB Stephon Gilmore, barring any final snags in negotiations.

  • Aaron Wilson reports that Gilmore receives a Stephon Gilmore Patriots deal: $65M, $40M gtd, $18M signing bonus, salaries $4.5M (gtd), $8.5M (gtd), $9.5M, $10.5M, $11.5M .

This comes as a pretty big surprise, as many expected Gilmore to land with the Bears and there wasn’t any reported interest from the Patriots before this. New England will clearly move on from Logan Ryan following this move.

Gilmore, 26, was taken with the No. 10 overall pick by the Bills back in 2012. He played out his rookie contract, but the Bills elected to pick up his fifth-year option for the 2016 season which paid him a guaranteed salary of $11 million.

Gilmore is now in a position to be one of the best available cornerbacks in this year’s free agent market.

In 2016, Gilmore appeared in 15 games and recorded 48 tackles, five interceptions, and 12 pass defenses for the Bills. Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 61 cornerback out of 112 qualifying players.

We had him featured in our Top 100 – 2017 Free Agents list.
