Rams Sign WR Tavon Austin To Four-Year, $42M Extension With $30M Gtd

Aaron Wilson of the National Football Post reports that the Rams are signing WR Tavon Austin to a contract extension on Saturday.

  • Adam Schefter reports that Austin receives a four-year, $42 million extension with $30 million guaranteed.
  • Schefter adds that incentives can push the contract up to $52 million in total value.

There was talk a few months ago that an extension could be coming for Austin, so this doesn’t come as a complete surprise.

Austin, 25, was the No. 8 overall pick back in 2013. He was in the final year of his four-year, $12.751 million rookie contract that included a $7.653 million signing bonus and stands to make a base salary of $2,143,773 for the 2016 season.

The Rams picked up Austin’s fifth-year option that would have run them $12.2 million in 2017.

In 2015, Austin appeared in all 16 games for the Rams and recorded 473 yards receiving on 52 receptions to go along with 434 yards rushing on 52 carries (8.3 YPC) and nine total touchdowns. Austin also contributed 268 punt return yards in a touchdown. Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 86 receiver out of 121 qualifying players.
