Ravens Fire OC Marc Trestman, Replace Him With Marty Mornhinweg

Update:

The Ravens have already confirmed the move via their Twitter account.

Here’s a statement from Ravens HC John Harbaugh regarding the move:

“After very careful consideration, I have decided to make a change to our offensive coaching staff and have replaced Marc Trestman with Marty Mornhinweg as offensive coordinator for the rest of the season. My obligations are to the team, the organization and the fans to be the very best team we can be. We will work to be better in every aspect of our football team. Our expectations are high, and we look forward to fulfilling them.”

“I appreciate and respect the efforts and contributions Marc has made to the team since his arrival. Marc is a good person and an excellent football coach.”

ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports that the Ravens are firing offensive coordinator Marc Trestman on Monday and replacing him with QBs coach Marty Mornhinweg.

  • According to Ian Rapoport, there was internal frustration with play-calling and run-game handling by Trestman.

The Ravens’ offensive coordinator position has been a great job in recent years, as a number of former head coaches were able to turn around their careers and later secure head coaching jobs like Gary Kubiak and Jim Caldwell.

However, the unit just wasn’t the same under Trestman and some had wondered if he could be replaced at some point.

The Ravens’ offense is currently 17th in yards, 16th in passing yards, 14th in rushing and 19th in points scored.

Mornhinweg will be Baltimore’s fifth offensive coordinator in as many years.

Trestman, 60, spent two years as the Chicago Bears head coach before he was fired after the 2014 season. The Ravens later hired him to run their defense in January of last year.
