ESPN’s Chris Mortensen is reporting that the Seahawks could lose a 2017 second-round pick as a result of their season-long failure to disclose CB Richard Sherman’s knee injury on their injury reports.
- Mortensen mentions that the Seahawks losing a second-round pick would be an “elevation” of the fifth-round pick they lost for reported OTA practice violations.
- According to Mortensen, the Seahawks are cooperating with league and contending that Sherman not missing a snap should be strongly considered on their behalf.
Earlier in the week, Seahawks HC Pete Carroll told reporters that Sherman had been playing through an MCL injury during the second half of the season.
Ian Rapoport later reported that the NFL was looking into the Seahawks’ handling of Sherman’s injury.
Sherman will not require surgery for his knee injury, but Carroll later mentioned that he may have screwed up by not disclosing it during the season.
“Honestly, I didn’t realize we hadn’t revealed it,” Carroll said, via ESPN.com. “I don’t even remember what game it was. It was somewhere in the middle — I don’t know. He was fine about it. He didn’t miss anything. The same with [quarterback] Russell [Wilson]. He was fine about it. I don’t know how they do that, but they did.”
“I don’t know,” Carroll said. “I’m feeling like I screwed that up with not telling you that because that happened, but he was OK. So I don’t know. He never missed anything, which is probably why.”
For what it’s worth, the Seahawks would lose the No. 56 overall pick in the 2017 draft if they end up being docked a second-round selection for this.
