Seahawks Sign DE Michael Bennett To Three-Year, $31.5M Extension With $17.5M Gtd

Jason La Canfora of CBS Sports reports that the Seahawks are signing DE Michael Bennett to a lucrative three-year extension on Friday. According to La Canfora, it’s a “done deal.

  • Ian Rapoport reports that Bennett receives a three-year, $31.5 million extension with $17.5 million guaranteed from the Seahawks.
  • Rapoport adds that Bennett will make $16 million in 2017 and $19 million as of March 5 of 2018.

Bennett tells Josina Anderson of ESPN that he’s glad the Seahawks invested in him.

“I’m glad they have the confidence in me to contribute to this great defense, and in keeping everybody together,” Bennett said. “I can’t complain; I’m about to be 32, so get as much money as you can while you’re playing.”

Bennett had been openly pushing for an extension over the past few years but it appears as though Seattle wanted to wait until he was entering the final year of his contract before getting serious about an extension.

Bennett, 31, began his NFL career with the Buccaneers and spent four years in Tampa Bay before signing on with the Seahawks as a free agent back in 2013.

Bennett was in the third year of his four-year, $32 million contract that included $16 million guaranteed and set to make a base salary of $6 million for the 2017 season.

In 2016, Bennett has appeared in 10 games and recorded 32 tackles and four sacks for the Seahawks. Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 9 edge rusher out of 110 qualifying players.

We’ll have the contract details posted as the news is available.
