Steelers Parting Ways With OC Todd Haley

Update:

Steelers HC Mike Tomlin released the following statement regarding the decision to part ways with OC Todd Haley.

“I have made the decision to not renew the contract for offensive coordinator Todd Haley. I would like to thank Todd for his contributions to our offense the past six years, and we wish him the best in his coaching future.

Ian Rapoport of NFL Media reports that the Steelers will allow offensive coordinator Todd Haley, who is currently a free agent, to move on and sign with another team.

Recent reports have made it clear that Haley’s future with the Steelers was in question, so this shouldn’t come as a big surprise.

Last weekend, Ian Rapoport reported that the relationship between Steelers QB Ben Roethlisberger and Haley was “in as bad of a place as it’s been in years.” In fact, things are so bad in terms of communication between the two that QBs coach Randy Fichtner has come down from the booth to serve as a conduit on the sidelines.

Earlier in the day, Alex Marvez of the Sporting News is hearing that Fichtner is “front runner” to replace Haley as offensive coordinator if they parted ways.

Haley, 50, began his NFL career with the Jets as a scouting assistant back in 1995. He has worked for a number of teams including the Bears, Cowboys and Chiefs before joining the Steelers as their offensive coordinator in 2012.

In 2017, the Steelers’ offense ranked No. 3 in total yards, No. 8 in points scored, No. 20 in rushing yards and No. 3 in passing yards under Haley.
