Vikings Officially Sign WR Michael Floyd

Update:

The Minnesota Vikings announced that they’ve officially signed WR Michael Floyd to a contract.

Statement from Vikings GM Rick Spielman:

“Coach Zimmer and I are confident Michael Floyd has learned and grown from his past decisions. He has accepted full responsibility and is taking encouraging steps to improve. We have offered Michael the full support and assistance of the Minnesota Vikings organization and our player development programs. We are aware that Michael is subject to discipline from the NFL and will work with both him and the NFL in a professional manner. We are excited to have Michael and believe he can be a productive member of our football team and community.”

Statement from Floyd:

“I am very excited to come home and play for the Minnesota Vikings. I have been training extremely hard this offseason in addition to taking responsibility and paying the consequences for my mistake. Although I cannot change my past decisions, I have definitely learned from this experience and look forward to making valuable contributions to the Vikings organization and the Minnesota community, both as a player and a person. Time to go to work.”

Ian Rapoport of NFL Media reports that the Vikings are signing former Cardinals and Patriots WR Michael Floyd to a contract on Wednesday.

  • According to Rapoport, Floyd receives a one-year contract worth roughly $1.5 million that can be worth up to $6 million by reaching incentives.

Multiple reports have connected Floyd to the Vikings in recent days, so this shouldn’t come as a big surprise. It made sense for a team to wait until now to sign Floyd, as it ensured that he wouldn’t count against their 2018 compensatory picks.

Floyd is currently under house arrest until June 17 for an extreme DUI that led to him being cut by the Cardinals last year.

Floyd, 27, is a former first-round pick of the Cardinals back in 2012. He played his four-year, $9.972 million contract before the Cardinals elected to pick up his fifth-year option in 2015.

After he was arrested for DUI last year, Arizona elected to cut him loose and he was later claimed off of waivers by the Patriots.

In 2016, Floyd has appeared in 15 games and caught 37 passes for 488 yards receiving and five touchdowns for the Patriots. Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 94 receiver out of 115 qualifying players.

We had him featured in our Top 50 Available Free Agents list.
