Chiefs LT Branden Albert Day-to-Day with Hyperextended Knee

Kansas City Chiefs HC Andy Reid announced on Monday that LT Branden Albert has a hyperextended knee that is “a day-to-day situation“.

The news brings great relief after Albert had to be carted off the field during Week 13’s loss to the Broncos. Kansas City replaced Albert at left tackle with Donald Stephenson instead of No. 1 overall pick Eric Fisher.

Albert, 29, is easily the best lineman on the Chiefs’ roster and currently ranks as the No. 20 qualifying offensive tackle in the NFL, according to Pro Football Focus. He’s also playing the 2013 season out under the franchise tag, so he has a lot to gain this offseason. It would be terrible to see him suffer such a serious knee injury at this point in the season, given what he has on the line financially.

Whether Albert will return by the Chiefs Week 14 game against the Redskins remains unclear at this point in time, but it seems likely that he will at least miss one week.

We’ll have more as the news is available.
