Report: Redskins “Intent” On Locking Up LB Brian Orakpo

Update:

Mark Maske of the Washington Post reports that the Redskins are “intent” upon extending the contract of LB Brian Orakpo.

  • Washington reportedly views Orakpo as a “key factor in the team’s defensive success.
  • The Redskins remain hopeful that a long-term deal can be reached “well before” the start of free agency next year.

Orakpo, 26, is coming off another torn pectoral that cost him his second straight season. He is clearly one of the best outside linebackers in next year’s free agent class.

We have Orakpo listed as the No. 17 player in our Top 50 – 2014 Free Agents list.

It’s been reported this offseason that the Washington Redskins and linebacker Brian Orakpo have wanted to get a long-term extension done before he enters the final year of his current contract.

With training camp just over a month away, the two parties have yet to work on an extension. The good news however is that Orakpo doesn’t appear to use the lack of new paper as ammo to hold out of camp.

“I’m not worried about it,” Orakpo told the Washington Post last week. “I’m concentrating on having a successful season. Everything will take care of itself.”
