Broncos CB Aqib Talib Could Face As Much As An 8-Game Suspension For Offseason Incident?

According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, it’s possible that Broncos CB Aqib Talib could face a lengthy suspension for the offseason incident that resulted in him being shot.

“I remember initially speaking to somebody, and we were discussing the situation. And we were discussing it in a hypothetical way, because we do not know the exact facts of the situation. It’s a mystery. But the person I was talking to said, ‘I don’t see how this is less than 8 games,’” Schefter said during an interview with 104.3 The Fan. “I don’t know what it’s going to be. I’m just telling you what one knowledgeable person told me. Now maybe he’s suspended one game. That could be. Maybe it’s four games, and they appeal it and get it down to two.”

Schefter added that even if Talib isn’t charged by authorities for the incident, it’s still possible he could be suspended by the NFL.

“Even if the legal system never brings any charges against Aqib Talib, and he walks away from that situation without any issues, he very much still faces the real possibility that he’s going to be disciplined and disciplined rather severely from the NFL,” Schefter said.

The NFL is reportedly still investigating the circumstance that resulted in Talib being shot and the expectations has been that he would face punishment from the NFL, considering that he’s had multiple off-the-field incidents like this since entering the league.

Talib did, however, return to practice on Monday, but wouldn’t say anything about the circumstance that led to him being shot.

Talib, 30, is in the third year of his six-year, $57 million contract that includes $26 million guaranteed. He stands to make a base salary of $8.5 million for the 2016 season.

In 2015, Talib appeared 15 games for the Broncos and recorded 45 tackles, three interceptions with two of them bring returned for touchdowns, and 14 pass defenses. Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 28 cornerback out of 111 qualifying players.

We’ll have more regarding Talib and potential discipline from the league as the news is available.
