Broncos CB Aqib Talib Released From Hospital After Being Shot

ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports the bullet that hit Broncos CB Aqib Talib‘s leg entered and exited without hitting any arteries or tearing any ligaments.

  • According to Schefter, Talib received stitches, but did not require surgery.

The Broncos released a statement Sunday evening regarding the gunshot wound sustained by CB Aqib Talib. According to the team, Talib is expected to make a full recovery.

We are in communication with Aqib Talib, who remains at a Dallas hospital for observation as he recovers from a gunshot wound suffered to his lower right leg Sunday. He is expected to be released from the hospital soon, and we are glad he is OK and will make a full recovery.

Our organization has been in touch with the NFL on this matter, and we will provide additional updates as appropriate.

Mike Klis of 9News reports that Broncos CB Aqib Talib is still in the Dallas hospital, but there is hop he’ll be released at some point in the near future.

  • According to Jeff Legwold, Talib was treated in emergency room before being relocated to a room within the hospital.  Legwold confirms that he’s expected to be released “soon.”

Jeff Darlington of NFL Media spoke to Medical City Hospital who said that Broncos CB Aqib Talib has been released from the emergency room today and is no longer in hospital.

  • Mike Klis reports that Talib suffered a “minor” leg injury from the gunshot wound and the Broncos have already been in touch with him.
  • A source close to Talib tells Klis that he was hit with an “accidental” gunshot.

Liz Farmer of the Dallas Morning News reports that Talib was actually one of two victims injured after a fight broke out overnight at a Dallas nightclub.

According to Farmer, a patron pulled out a gun and shot one person inside the club, but the fight continued outside and another person wound up being shot.

Both victims were taken to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Police are currently looking for the others involved in the incident.

Rebecca Lopez of WFAA TV reports that Broncos CB Aqib Talib was among three people shot this morning in Dallas.

According to Lopez, Talib was shot after a fight broke out at a club in Dallas Sunday morning. Talib has reportedly been transported to Medical City hospital, but details are limited right now.

This is clearly a concerning situation for one of the Broncos’ cornerstone defensive players. We’re hoping that Talib’s injuries are non-life-threatening and he’ll be released from the hospital at some point in the near future.

Talib, 30, is in the third year of his six-year, $57 million contract that includes $26 million guaranteed. He stands to make a base salary of $8.5 million for the 2016 season.

In 2015, Talib appeared 15 games for the Broncos and recorded 45 tackles, three interceptions with two of them bring returned for touchdowns, and 14 pass defenses. Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 28 cornerback out of 111 qualifying players.
