Broncos Claim CB C.J. Smith Off Waivers From Browns

Field Yates of ESPN reports that the Broncos have claimed CB C.J. Smith off of waivers from the Browns on Friday.

Smith, 24, wound up signing on with the Eagles as an undrafted free agent out of North Dakota State back in 2016. He was on and off of the Eagles’ practice squad during his first year and a half in the NFL before the Browns signed him to their practice squad a few weeks into the regular season.

Smith was eventually promoted to the Browns’ active roster towards the end of the season.

Interestingly enough, the Browns agreed to trade Smith to the Seahawks back in March for a 2020 conditional seventh-round pick. However, the deal was later nullified after Smith failed his physical for the Seahawks.

Cleveland waived Smith on Thursday.

In 2017, Smith appeared in three games for the Browns and recorded one tackle.
