Broncos Starting Brock Osweiler In Week 11

Update:

Broncos HC Gary Kubiak announced Monday that Brock Osweiler will start Sunday against the Bears.

“This week, Peyton is not going to play. Brock is going to play this week,” Kubiak said.

Kubiak added that Trevor Siemian will backup Osweiler in Week 11 with Manning dealing with a plantar fascia tear.

ESPN’s Adam Schefter mentions that with Peyton Manning dealing with a plantar fascia tear in his left foot, it’s hard to imagine the Broncos not starting QB Brock Osweiler in Week 11.

This echoes what Mike Klis of 9News said earlier in the day.

David Chao points out that tearing of the plantar fascia often cures the issue, as temporary pain leads to long-term relief for a player.

According to Chao, plant foot plantar fasciitis saps arm strength in quarterbacks, which could explain Manning’s obvious struggles during Sunday’s loss to the Chiefs.

Either way, earlier indications are that Manning is likely to miss at least this week’s game.

In relief of Manning, Osweiler completed 14-of-24 passes for 146 yards, one touchdown and an interception.

Osweiler, 24, is in the final year of his  four-year, $3.516 million rookie contract that included a $997,584 signing bonus. He stands to make a base salary of $660,000 before testing the open market next year.

On the season, Osweiler has thrown for 146 yards while completing 58.3 percent of his passes to go along with one touchdown and an interception. He’s also added 18 yards rushing.

We’ll have more regarding Manning’s injury as the news is available.
