Broncos Could Hold WR Wes Welker Out Until The Playoffs?

Mike Klis of the Denver Post writes that the Broncos should not allow WR Wes Welker to return from his recent concussion until their first playoff game.

Welker missed Week 15’s game against the Chargers due to his second concussion of the season, but according to Klis, he didn’t look like the same player upon returning from a concussion he suffered back in November.

Klis notes that Welker averaged 6.1 receptions and 64.8 yards per game before his first head injury and only four catches and 43.3 yards per game afterwards. Klis adds that Welker also leads the league in drops with 10 this season, which is notable when you consider that Welker had double digit-drops in any season before this.

Denver is coming off of a loss to San Diego, but they got some help from the Miami Dolphins who managed to defeat the Patriots on Sunday. The Broncos finish out the season against two of three worst teams in the NFL, so they should be able to get by without Welker just fine and secure home field advantage.
