Broncos Keeping Kyle Orton?

Jason La Canfora of the NFL Network reports that the Denver Broncos are not as likely to trade QB Kyle Orton as it has previously been speculated.

Despite Tebow mania sweeping the country and a segment of the Broncos’ fanbase, Orton by far gives the team its best chance of winning games now … something the Broncos haven’t done an awful lot of lately,” La Canfora writes. “It would take a lot to pry him away (starting in the second-round level), and team officials doubt that kind of demand will be there. If it materializes, the Broncos will listen but I’d be surprised given this unusual offseason if he’s not their opening-day starter.

The most interested note that La Canfora passes along is that the team officials don’t believe that there will be a lot of interest in Orton. It has been previously reported that a number of teams were considering Orton as a backup option in case they’re able to get a quarterback like Kevin Kolb. So far Orton has been tied to the Cardinals, Titans and the Vikings.

As far as Orton giving them the best shot at winning games, the 2010 win column favored him sighlty but a 3-10 record isn’t exactly worth sitting a quarterback prospect for. The Broncos would be smart to give Tebow a shot so that they’re not battling against their fan base about his playing ability. The only way that they going to be able to counteract Tebowmania is if they actually give him shot. Fans won’t be screaming for them to play a guy that’s terrible.
