Mike Klis of 9 News reports that Broncos DE Derek Wolfe was told by spine surgeon Dr. Robert Watkins that while his neck injury won’t require surgery, he will need to take a couple of months off.

As much as I’d like to get back out there and keep playing, when a spinal doctor tells you that you can lose use of your right arm if you don’t rest and heal properly, you listen,’’ Wolfe tells Klis. “I don’t want to lose the use of my right arm. I’m happy because he said I wouldn’t need surgery which would have meant all kinds of crazy things. But he said there’s no way you should play football the next two months.’

Klis adds that the Broncos will likely place Wolfe on season-ending injured reserve in the coming days.

Wolfe, 27, is a former second-round pick of the Broncos back in 2012. He’s currently in the second year of his four-year, $36.7 million contract that included $17.5 million guaranteed and stands to make base salaries of $8 million and $9 million over the next two years of the agreement.

In 2017, Wolfe has appeared in 11 games and recorded 31 tackles and two tackles for the Broncos. Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 58 interior defensive lineman out of 117 qualifying players.

We’ll have more regarding Wolfe as the news is available.
