Broncos Notes: Paxton Lynch, Chad Kelly, Demaryius Thomas

Paxton Lynch

Broncos QB Paxton Lynch admitted that he was “pretty upset” after the team made the decision to demote him to third string.

“When I first got the news, I was pretty upset about it because I know how hard I work, I know how bad I want to play and I know how much this means to me,” Lynch said, via Pro Football Talk. “Sometimes you go through tough tests just to take you to a whole other level. I’m taking it that way and working my butt off. I’m just working hard and trying to get that opportunity and just play well. You come out here and sometimes it doesn’t go your way and you get frustrated, but you can’t because you have to keep moving forward.

Lynch did say that he’s not quitting and plans to work hard to get another shot at starting.

“I want to be the [starting] quarterback,” Lynch said. “I don’t want to be a backup and I definitely don’t want to be third-string quarterback. The cards have been dealt to this point in time and I’m not quitting. I’ll never quit, my mom never quit, my dad never quit, my brother never quit, I’m never going to quit and I’m working hard.”

After the game, Broncos HC Vance Joseph admitted that he felt bad for Lynch.

“I feel bad for Paxton but he has to ignore it and play ball,” Joseph said, per Mike Klis. “It’s professional football, no one’s going to hold your hand.”

Chad Kelly

Broncos second-string QB Chad Kelly told reporters that he’s still focused on preparing to be the starter.

I’m going to prepare like I’m a starter and go out and do my job to the best of my ability and keep on working hard because the minute you slip up, the next person is trying to lap you,” Kelly said, per Nicki Jhabvala.

Demaryius Thomas

Broncos WR Demaryius Thomas wound up sitting out of Saturday’s preseason game and HC Vance Joseph explained later that it was because Thomas is dealing with a wrist injury.

“He’s got a sore wrist,” Joseph said. “It happened in practice I think on Thursday and he couldn’t go tonight.”
