Demaryius Thomas Willing To Hold Out, Broncos Offering “Well Over” $12M Per Year

Ian Rapoport reports that the broncos have offered franchised WR  Demaryius Thomas  “well over” $12 million per year, but it still falls short of the Calvin Johnson type contract that he is searching for.

ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported earlier today that the Broncos haven’t exchanged any contract proposals or even spoken to Thomas and his representatives in “over a month“, so it appears that contract discussions have picked back up.

According to Rapoport, Thomas will not report to training camp in time if he and the Broncos cannot hammer out a long-term extension, so it seems that a holdout could be in the future for Thomas and the Broncos.

To exceed Johnson’s record contract, Denver would have to beat the eight-year, $150.5 million, $60 million guaranteed, and $16 million signing bonus deal that Johnson received in 2012.

Thomas, 27, stands to make a base salary of $12.82 million guaranteed for the 2015 season under the franchise tag.

In 2014, Thomas caught 111 passes for 1,619 yards receiving and 11 touchdowns over the course of 16 games. Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 5 receiver in the league out of 110 qualifying players.

We’ll have more regarding contract talks between the Broncos and Thomas as the news is available.
