Broncos Open To Re-Signing Free Agents RB Knowshon Moreno & DE Shaun Phillips

Broncos VP of football operations John Elway mentioned at this weeks NFL owners meetings that he wouldn’t rule possibly re-signing some of their free agents like RB Knowshon Moreno and DE Shaun Phillips.

“I’m still open to that,” Elway said. “You look at the impact from a lot of different ways as in what role they would have on our team, but it is something I would consider in both those cases.

This coincides with what John Fox told reporters on Monday, although he didn’t mention the possibility of re-signing Phillips.

“Shaun was really signed as a rotational-type guy last year and we’d be looking to see if he would play that same role,” Elway said. “The thought process with Shaun is we’ll see how things go, but I’d like to have him back. But it’s a matter of who’s out there and what opportunities he has, too.”

Phillips, 32, was signed to an extremely low contract last season and was without a doubt of the biggest steals in free agency. Last year, Phillips produced 37 tackles, 10 sacks, one interception and two forced fumbles.

Pro Football Focus rated him as the No. 18 overall defensive end in a 4-3 system last season.

Moreno reportedly has interest from the Miami Dolphins as well, so they could be a team to watch.

Moreno, 26, is coming off of a breakout 2013 season in which he totaled 1,039 yards rushing on 242 carries (4.3 YPC) to go along with an impressive 13 total touchdowns. He also contributed 60 receptions for 548 yards receiving last year.

We have both players listed in our Best Available Free Agents list.
