Broncos Place 2nd-Rd Tender On OLB Shaq Barrett, Don’t Tender WR Bennie Fowler

Troy Renck reports that the Broncos have placed a second-round restricted tender on OLB Shaq Barrett.

Mike Klis adds that the Broncos will not tender an offer to WR Bennie Fowler, which means he’ll be a free agent in the coming days.

Barrett, 25, wound up signing on with the Broncos as an undrafted free agent out of Colorado State back in 2014. He was on and off of their practice squad during his rookie season but managed to make the 53-man roster in each of the following two seasons.

The Broncos re-signed Barrett to a one-year, $615,000 exclusive rights contract last year.

In 2017, Barrett appeared in all 16 games for the Broncos and recorded 37 tackles, four sacks, two forced fumbles, and a recovery. Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 33 edge defender out of 106 qualifying players.
